I. (Idriss) van Straalen LLM

Idriss van Straalen is an accomplished, analytically acute criminal defense lawyer who quickly grasps the heart of the cases put before him. He represents clients in big, complicated cases concerning violent crimes (murder, manslaughter, assault and robbery), narcotics, fraud, money laundering, seizure of criminal profit, sex offences, burglary, theft and embazzlement. He also represents clients at the Supreme Court of Cassation. He defends both businesses and private clients, amongst whom are lawyers, CEO’s, entrepeneurs and celebrities.

Idriss is known as a highly capable defence lawyer who represents the interests of his clients, if necessary, at the cutting edge. This not infrequently leads to an acquittal, dismissal of charges or another favourable outcome.

Idriss started in 1998 as a lawyer in the established offices of Moskowicz Advocaten in Maastricht. In 2005 he joined Salomons van der Valk Advocaten in his hometown The Hague, where he became partner in 2008. In 2014 he co-founded Noorduyn Vermeij Van Straalen Advocaten which changed its name to Summit Advocaten per March 1st, 2021.

He is a member of the Dutch Association of Defense Counsel and a full member of the Association of Cassation Lawyers in Criminal Matters. He is treasurer of the Foundation for Criminal Law Practice and acts as editor and instructor for various (postgraduate)  educations.

He was installed as a substitute judge in 2019.
At the Netherlands Bar Van Straalen is registered for legal aid in the fields of criminal law, cassation, disciplinary law and youth protection. This registration obliges him to obtain ten training credits each calendar year in each of the registered main areas of law, in accordance with the standards of the Dutch Bar Association.
